Many of the police officers you run across in rural settings will be driving SUVs or trucks. Additional ground clearance is very much needed in certain patrol areas in some parts of the country. To tackle these challenges, Ford has rolled out the 2016 F-150 Special Service Vehicle, which is the police version of the new aluminum bodied F-150 truck.

The truck ditches the center seat/console of the front bench to make room for additional police gear. The rear seat and floor are vinyl for easy cleaning. The truck is also fitted with a big 240-amp alternator to power all the electronics that police need inside the truck.

Buyers can get the truck in XL Trim with SuperCrew or SuperCab configurations in 4×4 or 4×2 flavors. Power comes from either a 5.0L V8 or the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine. “Many officers need the extra space F-150 Special Service Vehicle offers,” said Stephen Tyler, Ford police marketing manager. “They can load the cargo box with equipment and still fit five people inside. Its utility is unmatched.”
