The pony car wars are hotter than ever thanks to the new and lighter Chevrolet Camaro and the updated Ford Mustang with independent rear suspension. While we wait for a Z/28 version of the new Camaro, Motor Trend decided it would still be fun to put the 2016 Shelby GT350R up against the 2015 Camaro Z/28 to see how they stacked up.

Power-wise the two cars are close with the Z/28 packing a 7.0L V8 making 505 hp and 481 lb-ft. of torque. The GT350R makes 526 hp and 429 lb-ft. of torque from a 5.2L V8. The Camaro does weigh a bit more helping to offset the torque the GT350R gives up. Of course, once the svelte Gen-6 Camaro gets a Z/28 variant, all bets are off.

Which of the cars comes out on top in the comparison? Check out the video to see. No matter which is the winner, pony car fans all win with these two awesome cars.
