I think I have failed as a parent. My kids both prefer the three newest Star Wars films to the original trilogy. Then, when I showed my son the 2016 Volkswagen Golf R SportWagen and said I want one, he informed me I wouldn’t be picking him up from school in a car like that. I hope he likes the bus.

I have a growing appreciation for sporty wagons and something about a Golf R wagon with a 300hp engine and flappy paddle gearbox makes me happy. I think I could humiliate people at the racetrack with a wagon like this more easily than I can in a 100whp Miata.

The crew at Car and Driver got to spend some time at a racetrack driving the car and all I really want to know is why VW didn’t invite me. This little beast can reach 60mph in less than five seconds and has a top speed of 155mph. It gets standard AWD and may be one of the best modern sleepers to cruise the roads. It’s not clear if this will come to the US, but I wish it would.
