Earlier this month, I mentioned that Volkswagen had confirmed that the Golf SportWagen Alltrack will be coming to the US. I have a Jones for that car, I really like the way it looks and wanting a VW isn’t something I would normally admit to.
The car geeks over at Car and Driver got their grubby mitts on the 2017 Alltrack and got to spend some time behind the wheel. This particular test car had the US-bound 180hp 1.8L TSI 4-cylinder engine, which they say is plenty for the wagon’s typical uses. I wonder if this car will stack up well against its biggest competition, the Subaru Outback, another all-wheel drive compact wagon.
One interesting thing is that VW’s 4Motion AWD system is able to decouple the rear axle for fuel economy when not needed for traction. The car certainly looks good on the inside too. It’s a sedate design, but appears to be made from quality materials. I really want one of these now
