Remember that Devel Sixteen hypercar that we talked about back in March of 2014? Everyone called BS on that car when it was first announced. Granted it looked kind of kooky and it promised five thousand horsepower making it hard to believe. Well, the engine for the beast has turned up and it is shredding the dyno.
The engine is a custom milled block from Steve Morris Engines. It has sixteen pots, displacing a semi truck-like 12.3 liters, and uses four massive 81mm turbos. FOUR! In testing, the engine’s builder says that it maxed the dyno out at 4,515 hp.
With a dyno up to the task, he says the engine would make the promised 5,000 horses. While that much horsepower is impressive, look at the torque number – 3,500 lb-ft! A street tune on 20-psi boot makes a more plebian 2,002 hp and 2,407 lb-ft of torque. The tire bill for an owner of this car will probably match the cost of the car each year.
