Down in Texas, Bloodshed Motors founder Mitch Medford—named after the actor Robert Mitchum, who starred in the 1958 movie Thunder Road about moonshine running—has taken the electric car to 11, as they said in Spinal Tap. Medford has dropped an electric motor in a 1968 Mustang Fastback that Steve McQueen would have been proud to drive. He calls it the Zombie 222, and it can blow most supercars off the road with a mind-numbing 0-60 time of 2.4 seconds.

In this video from our pals at The Verge, Medford takes his modified Mustang to the famous Texas Mile, aiming to break the record for top speed for an electric car. Spoiler alert: he does it. After a few passes at the Texas Mile, Medford and his Zombie 222 clock a speed of 174.2 miles per hour as they crossed the one-mile finish line. Not bad for a ’68 Mustang.
