In 2013, Tokyo-based filmmaker Luke Huxham made a short documentary called Underground Hero: Love to Hate Me, about the super car subculture in Japan in which alleged Yakuza gang members customize their Lambos to insane levels. It’s an intense look into a dark but fascinating pop culture phenomenon.

However, this video from Japan featuring a tricked out Lambo makes the cars featured in Huxham’s doc look ho hum.

The LP720-4 Aventador in question is one of the most over-the-top custom rides I have ever seen. The video begins showing it driving slowly down the road, and it’s hard to really catch all of the colors and lights it’s throwing off. Flashing lights mounted beneath the car pop on and off wildly and the metallic gold exterior is coated in a way to create a psychedelic rainbow blur of color. Much of the video focuses on the rear of the car as the driver, who has parked on top of a parking deck, revs the engine until a blast of flames shoots out of its tail pipe. The whole point seems to be that this ride is for seeing and hearing, not so much for driving. (After the first fiery blast, we hear the people crowded around the Lambo yell for “One more!” which the driver obliges time and time and time again.)

I had a headache and my eyes burned after watching the 4-minute clip, but the car is so mesmerizing I was powerless to turn it off.
