What were you doing when you were 17 years old? If you were Giorgetto Giugiaro, you were designing the truly breathtaking Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint, a gorgeous Italian coupe from the ’60s and ’70s.

Giugiaro went on to design, among other lovely automobiles, the DeLorean DMC-12, the Volkswagen Golf, and the Lotus Esprit. But it’s the Giulia Sprint that captured the imagination of a British tuner workshop that call themselves the Alfaholics. They’ve modernized this Alfa Romeo, retaining its classic design on the outside while amping up the suspension, brakes, body (with carbon fiber) and engine, boosting output to 240 horsepower. Alfaholics’s version can lap the Nürburgring in under 8 minutes, hot on the tail of a Porsche 911.

In this video, Charles Morgan tells the story of this Alfa rebuild as he steers the coupe through the British countryside, serenading the surrounding hills with a beautiful exhaust note. To him, the Alfa symbolizes “la dolce vita,” and you’ll get no argument here.
