BMW iX xDrive50 Is a Bold All-Electric Crossover

BMW has announced a new battery-electric “sports activity vehicle” called the iX xDrive50. It promises a combined 516 horsepower along with electric all-wheel drive. With so much power underfoot, the electric vehicle can reach 62 mph in 4.6 seconds.

The crossover makes extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic and other lightweight yet strong materials to build the vehicle helping to reduce weight, and less weight means a longer driving range. BMW promises the EV will drive 300 miles on a full charge, and the iX xDrive50 supports DC fast charging at up to 200 kW.

Other design features including a single-piece panoramic glass roof with electrochromic shading. The vehicle also offers the BMW Curved Display and iDrive eight, along with BMW Digital Key Plus. The SUV is also available with an optional Bowers and Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound audio system.

An optional two-axle air suspension is available, along with numerous other add-ons that can drive the starting price up significantly from the $83,200 starting price. The MSRP doesn’t count the $995 destination charge. Expect the BWM iX xDrive50 to land at US dealerships in Q1 2022. While the iX xDrive50 is the only model being officially revealed today, a more powerful iX M60 version with over 600 horsepower is planned for the future.
