That has changed, especially in the last few years with Ford offering track focused cars like the Boss 302 and the Shelby GT350. Chevy is in on the act too with the Z/28 Camaro and Corvette Stingray. Camaro buyers now have another track-worthy option package to choose from called the 1LE.
Buyers can get the 1LE package on the V8 Camaro SS and it brings with it magnetic ride control suspension, unique forged wheels, dual-mode exhaust, a track cooling package, Recaro front seats, satin black trim, and lots more. Chevy also adds larger 6-piston Brembo brakes and an electronic limited slip differential. Chevy claims the 1LE SS can reach over 1.0G in lateral acceleration.
The 1LT or 2LT V6 1LE pack offers the FE3 suspension from the SS, forged aluminum wheels, dual-mode exhaust, 4-piston Brembos, mechanical LSD, track cooling package, SS fuel system, and lots more. It also has special forged aluminum wheels and a satin black hood.
Chevy says the 1LE Camaros will be available in late 2016 on 2017 model year cars. I hope these cars perform as good as they look, and the prices aren’t too high.
