If you show up to enough track days, you are bound to run into some interesting kit cars. I’ve seen plenty of Cobra and Daytona replicas and ran into more than a few Exocet kit cars in my day. I’ve also happened on a Subaru Impreza-based Factory Five 818 and it was rather good looking.

The cool thing about the 818 is that it is super light when complete. Depending on how you outfit the 818, it can weigh as little as 1,800 lbs. Power for these cars comes from a Subaru flat-four, ideally from a WRX.

The new 818C gets something that builders have wanted for a while, a hard top. That new hard top is joined by a redesigned front end that looks pretty good. The new front end and hardtop can be retrofitted to older versions of the car and the top adds about 300 pounds to the car. The hardtop adds $2,500 to the price of the kit and the car should cost somewhere in the $17,000 to $18,000 range when complete (plus the cost of the donor car.)
