Not everyone will get a chance to experience a major automotive Concours d’Elegance up close and personal. Fortunately, filmmakers Justin LaPriore and Alexander Liberman of Let’sMakeMedia have given us the next best thing, an outstanding look at what it’s like to experience the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, which takes place each Spring in Florida.
Their short film Fresh Patina documents some of the extraordinary classic cars on display at the recent 20th Anniversary show. What I love about it is how it captures what it’s really like to attend one of these exhibitions from multiple perspectives. From drivers staging and preparing their rides for judging, to taking them out for a drive, to the wondrous exhaust notes of these amazing cars, it’s well worth a watch. I just love to see the old Lancias, those are some of my personal favorites. There’s a formula car exhaust note that made me grin ear-to-ear, and seeing Sir Stirling Moss pose alongside such an extraordinary collection of his race cars is a real treat. And then there’s this thing…
I highly recommend watching the full 23 minute version which is truly immersive, though if you don’t have the time to spare, watch the short 5-minute version, which captures the spirit of the longer film, and will whet your appetite for more:
