Keith Helmetag has owned his lovely green 1969 Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider for about a decade. “You have all these wonderful memories,” he tells the team at Petrolicious. “Going surfing with your son, getting an ice cream with family, driving a twisty road with clouds overhead. It’s all those experiences that are packed into the compartment.”

It’s easy to see why you would wax philosophical after spending some time behind the wheel of such an easy-going, classic car. A designer by trade, Helmetag has modified his Alfa Spider to return it to the purity and simplicity of the clay models, removing badging and side lights, to get back to the original form of the car. He chose the less-common green rather than traditional red color to stand out from the crowd as he puts some 5,000 annual miles on his prize possession’s odometer.

“I’ve just gone through another restoration,” Helmetag says, “so the car’s ready for another decade, or more.”
