GM pulled its last-generation Colorado and Canyon trucks from the market after sales failed to meet goals. If things continue to go as they are, the new Canyon and Colorado won’t meet that same fate. It’s estimated that models are on track to reach 120,000 units sold this year.
With demand for the new mid-size trucks so high, GM is scrambling to figure out how to boost production. A letter sent to workers at a plant in Wentzville, Missouri noted that GM is considering outsourcing some of the van production currently performed in that facility to AM General.
The plant is currently building Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana cargo vans. With the van production outsourced to AM General, GM could then increase Canyon and Colorado production at the facility.
