Tesla is set to kick off reservations for its much anticipated entry level Model 3 EV on March 31. According to reports from Tesla employees, many of the stores have taken inquiries from prospective customers, and early indications are that stores will have as many as 100 people lined up to reserve their Model 3, and estimates are ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 possible reservations right out of the gate.
With 221 Tesla stores around the world, each store would need to take over 450 reservations to hit that 100k number. Since each store expects to handle 30 to 50 reservations an hour, it certainly is feasible in a single business day, especially when you add in online reservations, which will be available after the reveal on Thursday night.
Assuming that the company racks up 100,000 reservations or more, that is certainly more cars than the company could produce quickly – Tesla delivered only about 50,000 cars total in 2015.
