Subaru has gone official with a new car architecture that will underpin everything from the next-generation Impreza to the Outback and Forester models. This new platform is called the Subaru Global Platform and it will allow all Subaru models to be built on a single assembly line.

The new global platform is also designed from the get go with electrification in mind. We have heard that the next generation WRX STi could be a hybrid, and the new platform will support hybrids and full EVs. Subaru promises 70% to 100% more rigidity compared to the current platform, which should mean better handling all around.

Subaru also says the new platform will reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). Body roll is also said to be improved by 50%, without making the ride harsh thanks to suspension changes. Safety was also a concern with 40% better impact energy absorption than the previous platform. I can’t wait to see the new WRX running on this platform.
