I wasn’t that thrilled by the ads which ran during this year’s Super Bowl, but the one spot that won almost universal praise was Nissan’s emotional clip about the bond between a child and his dad who races cars for a living. Not only was the clip a tearjerker, it featured some cool cars and spectacular driving footage.

In this featurette, we go behind the scenes of the commercial shoot, highlighted by the appearance of the new GT-R LM NISMO, the LMP 1 headed to the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans. The clip was shot at the new Circuit of the Americas track in Austin, Texas, which stood in for both Le Mans and a Japanese track along the way. And yes, they actually did smash a couple of GT-Rs into each other for the dramatic crash sequence. Ouch.
