When is a Ferrari not a Ferrari? When you can’t drive it down the street and have everyone ogle at your awesome ride and show off your Master of the Universe status.

That’s essentially the situation for the new LaFerrari-inspired FXX K. Only 30 were made, and each ones costs about $3 million. Not only that, the only time you can get behind the wheel is when Ferrari takes your car to the track and allows you to let loose (yes, this is not a street-legal ride). If that all sounds pretty unsatisfying, the sound this beast makes and the power under its hood make those stipulations seem bearable.

Like the LaFerrari, the FXX K is a hybrid. The mid-engine exotic has two power sources – an 848hp, 6.3-liter V-12 motor enhanced with another 188hp chipped in by the electric hybrid power source. Yeah, that equals 1,036 total horsepower. And don’t get me started on the exterior. While the gull-winged FXX K has classic Ferrari lines, the two piece wing on the back adds an element of menace that is totally in keeping with the car’s overall evil vibe.

There’s a new video that was posted by Italian car enthusiast Marchettino that motorheads are flocking to that shows a quartet of FXX K’s ripping around Ferrari’s track in Imola, and it’s like listening to a symphony of speed – the raspy-beyond-reason engine note combined with the precise popping of the up and downshifting are absolutely glorious. The only problem with the video is that it’s a terrible tease for all of who will never get the chance to pilot one.
