U.S. Porsche Boxster and Cayman to Get Turbo Fourzoom in

For as long as the Porsche Boxster and Cayman have been around they have used the company’s iconic flat-6 engines. The last time Porsche sold a car in the U.S. with a four cylinder engine was way back in 1995 with the 968. We know that the changing fuel economy standards are forcing many manufacturers to ditch larger, naturally-aspirated engines for smaller, turbocharged ones.

If you held out any hope that the flat-6 would soldier on in the US, that hope has been dashed. Porsche CEO Matthias Muller has said that the Boxster and Cayman will both get turbo-four engines starting with the 2016 model – at least here in the U.S.

The upside to the confirmation that the fours are coming is that they are flat-fours, and will produce close to 400hp. They will presumably be lighter as well which will further help performance.
