Volvo has announced that starting this spring its line of high-end 90 series vehicles will get an integrated, native Spotify streaming app. The controls for the app will be placed on the big tablet-like screen on the dash of the XC90, S90, and V90.
Drivers of those vehicles won’t need a smartphone to stream their Spotify tunes. Presumably, the service uses the car’s built in wireless connection, but that’s not clear. The native Volvo app does support Spotify Connect so you can use your mobile device as a remote without having to connect the device to the car.
Keep in mind that a Spotify Premium subscription is required to listen via the Volvo app. A 30-day trial is included with the app. Native streaming will be available everywhere Spotify is offered.
