A Brave New Eco World

February 2, 2016 | Industry News

TORONTO, Ont. (February 10, 2016) — Climate change is a growing global concern, and the automotive industry is making significant strides to develop affordable, feasible vehicles that are powered by alternative energies.

At the 2016 Canadian International AutoShow, more than 25 electric, hydrogen and hybrid eco vehicles that have the state of the environment top of mind are slated to be on the show floor at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from February 12th to 21st, 2016, including the just announced display of the Tesla Model X production vehicle – the first time this model will be seen at any global auto show.

“More and more car owners are conscious about their emissions and are looking for an alternative energy vehicle without sacrificing the power and performance of a traditional automobile,” says Jason Campbell, General Manager of the AutoShow. “The development of alternative energies has come a long way, and it is a great testament to the AutoShow that our annual showcase can attract so many global innovation leaders”.

During the AutoShow, Audi will be offering test drives of their most innovative plug-in hybrid electric vehicle ever. The A3 e-tron has a 75 kW electric motor and a 1.4 TFSI engine that combines power, efficiency and luxury in one vehicle. The A3 e-tron can operate on pure electric power, gasoline power or a combination of the two. Audi will be offering customers interested in taking an e-tron test drive at the Show an opportunity to do so each day until 6:30 p.m. on the 800 level of the South Building.

There are alternative fuel production and concept cars from practically every major automaker in today’s market. Please see the backgrounder below for a more in depth look at many of the eco cars that will be on display at the AutoShow.
