Acura sold the very first production NSX at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction this past the weekend. The special car is VIN #001 and it sold for big, big money. When the gavel fell on the auction, the car sold for $1.2 million – a massive premium over the $156,000 to $200,000 retail price.
The winning bidder was frequent auction bidder and winner Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, and 100% of the hammer price of the auction will go to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation in North Carolina and Camp Southern Ground in Georgia.
The car you see in the images here isn’t the actual car he purchased. In fact, our eagle eyes on the ground at the auction spotted that this is pre-production car, with serial number “#0000”.
Hendricks actually bought the rights to the first production car when sales kick off this spring. Presumably that means he can choose his options and colors. Customers can start ordering their own 2016 Acura NSX starting this February 25.
