One of the most exciting products Ford is working on is the F-150 Lightning electric pickup. While that truck is full of exciting features, one of the most appealing is the Mega Power Frunk. For those unfamiliar with the term “frunk,” it’s a front trunk that offers storage space where the combustion engine normally would sit.
Ford is now taking the time to brag about the Lightning’s frunk, noting that it is the largest in the industry. An interesting tidbit has also surfaced, noting that the Ford user experience team prototyped designs for the frunk using cardboard and hot glue to learn what customers wanted.
The frunk is sized to hold two full-size golf bags for a day on the course. In addition, fleet owners envision users utilizing the frunk to store tools and other supplies for the job site. A couple of the interesting design elements for the frunk included an asymmetrical floor and drains.
Drains mean that owners can put muddy or dirty items inside the frunk and hose it out when it needs to be cleaned. The asymmetrical floor can also be used as a cooler, and lights are integrated to help find objects at night.
