Back in the 1970s, Ford made a compact car that ran the gamut from basic people mover to powerful muscle car called the Maverick. Ford has confirmed after a lot of rumors flew that the Maverick name is returning. However, it’s coming back as a compact pickup that sits below the Ranger in Ford’s truck lineup.
We don’t know too much about the Maverick at this time. All we have now are a couple of teaser images and videos shared by Ford showing small features of the Maverick XLT truck along with actress Gabrielle Union in the driver’s seat. Ford says the truck will be compact, but it’s hard to get an idea of its size in the images.
The truck does appear to be a crew cab in the pictures and is rumored to share a platform with the Ford Escape and Bronco Sport. With pricing on pickup trucks soaring and very little size difference between mid and full-size trucks, Ford could carve a new segment out for a more compact truck. It should sell in significant numbers if Ford prices it reasonably.
The Maverick and more of its details would be revealed tomorrow, June 8. Union will show it off on her Instagram and TikTok channels, as well as Ford social media networks and Hulu.
