If Lexus is truly working on an image change, then it’s perhaps no more evident than their creation of a genuine working hoverboard. The luxury arm of Toyota has been working on a prototype that uses what’s called super-conductive technology and magnetic levitation with liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets to provide completely frictionless motion.

The video teases the hoverboard’s capabilities, and the anticipation is palpable. It shows a skateboarder on a wheeled version, who then walks and transitions to the floating Lexus hoverboard, stopping just shy of putting all his weight on it. The bamboo covered board even has a spindle grille that’s now on just about every Lexus automobile. The board will undergo testing in Barcelona, Spain and will debut sometime this summer. This homage to Back to the Future II would make Marty McFly proud. We can’t wait, either.
