I decided long ago that if I ever won the lottery, I would buy a bunch of awesome old racecars and build my own track to terrorize with them. One of the cars I definitely have to own in my lotto winning future is the Porsche 904 GTS. Not only does this classic Porsche look fantastically cool, it also sounds like a speed demon.
This car uses all the old school build tech from days before carbon fiber. Under the fiberglass, bodywork is a boxed steel ladder frame and a highly complex flat-four that’s under 2 liters in displacement.
A car similar to this one running a 2.0-liter six sold at Sotheby’s auction earlier in the year for $1.6 million. That is a seriously expensive car to be flogging at the track. I love the driver for doing it.
