I recently had the opportunity to drive the Range Rover SVR, and it truly is one of the most impressive vehicles I’ve driven this year, offering the full off-road capabilities of a Range Rover, combined with the heart and soul of a sports car. In addition to its agility, the 550 hp supercharged V8 doesn’t hurt, nor does its incredible exhaust note.
While I only had the opportunity to drive the SVR on public roads, I would have loved to take it to a racetrack, like the UK’s famed Silverstone circuit. With the guidance of Finnish rally champ Minna Sillankorva, polar explorer Ben Saunders had just that opportunity, though rather than speed through the real Silverstone, he raced on a replica of the course, carved out of ice.
Check out the video above for a look at this awesome stunt, as the SVR makes quick work of the slippery conditions, in part thanks to the Range Rover’s impressive terrain response, active locking rear differential, and torque vectoring by braking systems.
