Let’s get this out there – auto journalists have a thing for station wagons. I don’t know what it is, but I guess it’s that they provide the utility of an SUV while still handling like a car. Modern wagons also just look cool. Take, for example, this custom Subaru Levorg STI Sport # that turned up at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon. Now I’m not sure if you pronounce it “STI Sport pound sign,” “STI Sport sharp,” or “STI Sport hashtag,” but this car sure looks amazing. It has a big air intake on the hood, aero trim, dual sport exhaust, and 19″ BBS forged aluminum rims wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires, all courtesy of Subaru Tecnica International.
Under the wagon’s hood, you’ll find a 2.4-liter, turbocharged Boxer four engine that kicks out 271 horsepower and 258 lb-ft. of torque. Like many other Subarus, it’s got an all-wheel drive, though it also has a continuously variable transmission, which is my least favorite way to send power to the axles. No manual option here. It also has a transmission oil cooler, a strut tower brace, and a flexible draw stiffener, which help with ride stability and control.
Inside, you’ll find a sporty D-shaped steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and Recaro sport seats wrapped in Ultrasuede for style and to keep you from slipping around in the corners. That same tactile fabric can be found on the headliner, dash, and door trim.
As the headline says, there’s little chance we’ll ever see the Levorg STI Sport# here in the U.S., but if you’re fortunate enough to live in Japan, Subaru plans on producing a limited run of 500 of the cars and will be taking orders for the cars from January 26 to May 12, 2023 at a retail price of 5,764,000 yen – or about $44,800 US dollars.
