“An M car is about motorsports,” says BMW M CEO Frank Van Meel. “It is about emotion, not only the way it looks but also the character of the car. Also, more technically, that it’s got a lot of precision, agility and dynamics, the key issues for an M vehicle. To bring it to a very focused point, it’s the ultimate, ultimate driving machine.”
Van Meel sat down with /DRIVE to discuss the M series. So what does the future of M hold? “It’s important that it keeps its character. It’s not so much about the specific technology. It’s about the character of the car. The technology has to fit to the overall vehicle character to fulfill this purpose… M will stay the M.”
